Marina Bay

Singapore's skyline stage — Marina Bay Sands, Gardens by the Bay, and the infinity pool on a boat the world photographs

first-time visitorsluxury travellersfamilies
— The Neighbourhood

Marina Bay is the centrepiece of modern Singapore — reclaimed land converted between the 1980s and 2010s into the skyline the city built its brand around. Marina Bay Sands (the three-tower casino hotel with the boat-shaped SkyPark on top, opened 2010) is the anchor. Gardens by the Bay (the Supertree Grove + two conservatory biomes) is across the bay on further reclaimed land. The ArtScience Museum, the Esplanade ('the durian'), and the Fullerton Hotel (in the 1928 General Post Office) complete the waterfront. Stay here if your priority is the skyline, the casino, and being the first at Gardens by the Bay's morning opening.

restaurant

Lau Pa Sat hawker centre

— Where to stay

Sleeping in Marina Bay

Marina Bay Sands (the obvious answer — 2,561 rooms, the infinity pool only guests use) is a category unto itself. The Fullerton Bay Hotel (boutique, on the water) and the Ritz-Carlton Millenia Singapore are the quieter luxury alternatives. Mid-tier: Mandarin Oriental Singapore. Prices are Singapore's highest by 30%+; stay in Chinatown instead for the same restaurants at lower rates.

— Getting around

How to move

Bayfront MRT (CE1/DT16) serves the Sands and Gardens by the Bay directly. The pedestrian bridge loop around the Bay is the best commute — 2.5 km circular walk takes 45 minutes. Grab + MRT cover everything else.

FAQ

Marina Bay: common questions

Yes — the infinity pool is hotel-guest-only, strictly enforced. The SkyPark observation deck (which gives the photograph of the pool but from above) is open to all for SGD 32. To swim the pool you must book a room.
