Greece in 10 days works with a two-island pairing rather than the Santorini-only default. Three nights in Athens (Acropolis, the Agora, the museums), two on Santorini (one full day on the caldera, one day trip to Oia for sunset), two on Milos (the real quiet island, quieter beaches, fewer cruise-boat afternoons), and three on Crete to finish. Ferries handle the island-hopping; fly Milos-to-Crete to save a full day at sea.
Each day is written to balance structure with breathing room. Named hotels, named meals, named activities; logistics noted where they matter.
Land at ATH, Metro (Line 3) to Syntagma (45 min, €10). Check into a Plaka or Monastiraki hotel. First-night taverna in the Plaka or on the tables around Mnisikleous Street with the Acropolis lit above.

Morning Blue Star or Highspeed ferry Piraeus → Santorini (5-8 hours depending on the boat). Check into a caldera-side hotel in Oia, Imerovigli, or Fira. Afternoon at the pool. First sunset at your hotel rather than battling the Oia crowd on day one.
Morning at Akrotiri's Bronze-Age excavations (Minoan-era city preserved in volcanic ash, 1600 BCE). Lunch in Megalochori. Late afternoon in Oia for the actual sunset — get into Oia by 18:00 if you want a good viewpoint; it gets shoulder-to-shoulder by 19:30.
Morning Seajets ferry Santorini → Milos (1h 40m). Milos is structurally quieter — fewer cruise-boat arrivals, more beach variety (Sarakiniko's white lunar rocks, Tsigrado's ladder-access cove, Fyriplaka's red cliffs). Afternoon on Sarakiniko.
Full day private or small-group sailboat around Milos — Kleftiko's pirate coves, Gerakas bay, Poliegos island (the unhabited neighbour, with the clearest water in the Cyclades). Swim breaks through the day. Sunset back in Klima.
Short Sky Express flight Milos → Heraklion (1h direct; otherwise via Athens 3h total). Check into a Chania or Heraklion-area hotel (depending on which coast of Crete). Afternoon in Heraklion: Archaeological Museum (Minoan frescoes, Phaistos disc). Evening waterfront dinner.
Morning at Knossos (the Minoan palace, 1700 BCE; the reconstructions by Arthur Evans are themselves historic now). Drive to Chania (2h 30m west). Evening in Chania Old Harbour — 14th-century Venetian lighthouse, narrow lanes, the single prettiest coastal town on the island.
Morning at Balos beach (most Instagrammed, real effort to reach — boat from Kissamos is easier than the drive) or one of the coastal villages (Loutro, accessible only by boat or 5-hour hike). Fly out from Chania (CHQ) or Heraklion (HER).
Both in this itinerary. Santorini is the canonical sunset-caldera photograph you came for; Milos is the quieter, swim-friendlier, more varied-coast island that most Greece repeats choose over Santorini. Doing both is only 2 extra hours of ferry time and worth it.
