Week 16 · 2026

This week in travel deals.

Shoulder-season Mediterranean anchors the week — pre-peak airfares to Greece, Sicily, and Portugal are 30-40% below July-August, and the weather is already on.

Mid-April is the final quiet window before European peak. Flights to Athens, Rome, and Lisbon from US East Coast gateways are holding at $450-650 round-trip for May departures — the same tickets will be $800-1,100 by mid-June. The better play is often a short stopover in a northern city (Amsterdam, Copenhagen) on open-jaw tickets, which saves the positioning flight and adds a second destination. On the hotel side, the best genuine value this week sits in the Andaman coast of Thailand (low season starts, rain pattern still manageable) and in two Greek islands — Milos and Naxos — where May remains sub-peak but water is warm. We've stripped out flash-sale chain-hotel noise and kept only stays we'd personally book.

Flight

JFK→Athens, Rome→JFK (open-jaw, May 6-21)

$489 round-trip~$850 direct June

An open-jaw US-to-Europe ticket is the value play this week — JFK to Athens, Rome back to JFK, routing via Lufthansa/United or Delta/Air France. Saves the internal Athens-Rome flight ($150-200 if booked separately) and enables a proper two-country trip. Operating 14-21 day windows in May held at $489-549 round-trip per person when we sampled Tuesday through Thursday.

The sea is already 20°C by mid-May, the ferries to Santorini and Folegandros run fully, and the quieter shoulder-season rhythm gives you an island that doesn't get this quiet again until mid-October.

How we pick deals: Our editors curate 8-12 hand-picked offers every Monday. Each deal meets three tests: genuinely good value (not a marketing-priced discount), bookable via a reputable platform (Expedia, Booking, Viator, or direct hotel), and personally-vouched-for by at least one editor. No affiliate weighting; we don't get paid more for any specific booking partner. Our editorial standards →
