Alright, let’s start our first day by jumping into Vienna’s awesome imperial past! We’ll visit some of the city’s most well-known travel destinations and pretty buildings that make it a must-see place.
9:00 AM – Check Out Vienna’s St. Stephen’s Cathedral
Let’s start our day by checking out one of the most famous spots in Vienna – St. Stephen’s Cathedral! It’s also called Stephansdom.
This place is really old, like from the 12th century, and it’s a super cool example of Gothic style. It’s got a roof with colorful tiles and really tall pointy towers. You just have to see it!
When you get closer to the cathedral, take a second to look at all the detailed carvings in the stone. They’re so intricate and pretty! And the front of the building is really big and impressive.
Once you go inside, get ready to be amazed! The ceilings are so high and the altars are really fancy. But the best part? The stained glass windows! They’re so beautiful with all their different colors.
If you’re feeling brave (and don’t mind heights), you can even go up the 343 steps to the top of the cathedral’s tower. I know it sounds like a lot, but trust me, the view of the city from up there is absolutely worth it!
11:00 AM – Walk Around the Historic City Center
After checking out St. Stephen’s Cathedral, let’s explore the area around it called the Innere Stadt. It’s the historic city center and it’s super easy to walk around. The streets are made of cobblestone and the buildings are really old and pretty, which are from the Baroque time period.
Our next stop is the Hofburg Imperial Palace. This used to be where the powerful Habsburg family lived. It’s huge and really impressive with ornate staterooms, lavish gardens, and cool museums.
Even if you don’t have time to go inside, make sure to walk through the courtyards and admire the big, grand buildings. It’s like something out of a fairy tale and definitely one of the top things to see in Vienna!
Right across from the Hofburg, there’s a big open space called Heroes’ Square (Heldenplatz). It’s got some really impressive buildings around it, like the Austrian National Library.
Lots of important things have happened in this square over the years. It’s a great place to sit and watch people or just take in how grand the city is.
Before we leave this area, let’s stop by the famous Spanish Riding School (Spanische Hofreitschule). If we’re lucky and we time it right, we might get to see the Lipizzaner horses and their riders practicing their fancy horse dancing moves. As you walk up to the palace, you’ll be amazed by how big and grand it is. Once you’re inside, you’ll get to see:
- Rooms and apartments that are so luxurious, each one better than the last
- Detailed frescoes, fancy chandeliers, and super expensive art on the walls
After you’ve explored the inside of the palace, please take some time to walk around the gardens outside. They’re so well taken care of and feature:
- Flower beds that are arranged just right
- Mazes made out of hedges
- Ponds that are peaceful and calm
